That being said, 1 Corinthians 7:20 says "Each person should remain in the situation they were in when God called them." What if they get a band logo (idolatry) and it was your own tattoos that led them to stumble in such a way? I wouldn't want that on my conscience, would you? They could be lead (mislead) to believe all tattoos are acceptable for Christians. There's no telling if they would get biblical tattoos, either. Suppose a new Christian sees another Christian all tatted up and then is led to believe that tattoos are acceptable, because they haven't yet read the verses I already shared. This verse urges us to keep in mind how our actions affect others.
IN CHRIST ALONE TATTOO PLUS
Plus tattoos' undeniable rise in popularity is definitely a new "pattern of this world" so because of all of these reasons, the Word tells us, again that tattoos would not be appropriate for a Christian.Īlso, "Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak." (1 Corinthians 8:9) And as we already saw in Leviticus 19:28, tattoos would not be pleasing to God. There's nothing holy about tattoos (even the biblically inspired tattoos set people up for undue scrutiny of hypocrisy). 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world." (Romans 12:1b-2a) "1.offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship.
IN CHRIST ALONE TATTOO HOW TO
This is in the context of how to avoid idol worship, but I believe it would apply to tattoos also, because by tattooing yourself with certain images, you would be honoring the creation more than the Creator, which would then toe the line of idolatry. This verse alone strictly forbids tattoos.Īlso the 2nd Commandment in Exodus 20:4 also forbids it: "You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below."

It doesn't get anymore specific than that. "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put any tattoo marks on yourselves. If you already have some, I believe Jesus would forgive you for getting them, but I truly believe He wouldn't want you to continue to get any more.
IN CHRIST ALONE TATTOO UPDATE
I’m not sure if I should remove this comment and reply properly or just leave this update here. The Bible does say, if you don’t do it in good conscience (aka if you think it might be wrong and you do it anyway), that is sin.Įdit: apologies, /u/mpbishop - for some reason I thought you were the original poster and I responded to you as such. I can’t say I feel convicted by the Holy Spirit about it. I do not personally have a problem with people having tattoos and I don’t personally want any. My opinion on this topic is that God is likely going to shepherd people differently and for different reasons. Back to my original statement: the fact is that the way people use/do tattoos today is not clearly biblically mandated. So if a person would use OT to back up their convictions, they ought to follow all of the OT. (Although, I’m of a sudden mind to look up the Hebrew behind the word “cutting” in that verse to see if that could potentially describe “poking yourself with a needle over and over”.) But regardless, it’s only OT, as you mentioned, and there are many, many OT rules we don’t follow. The fact is that it’s not clearly biblically mandated even the Leviticus verse only prohibits tattoos that honor the dead. Pray to God for a healthy local Christian church to join, and for faithful and doctrinally sound Biblical counsel and discipleship. The Gospel Read about the way to eternal life.
